best gearbox for 1.8 turbo conversion

Recommended Posts

fingers crossed ill be picking up a 20vt engine at the weekend. It will be going into my g60 at some point . Would like to know which gearbox would be best suited for it? Dont think my g60 box will be up to the job as its a bit crunchy and id like to be able to get to 60 in second. Any ideas guys?

the higher rev limit of the 20v will let you hit 60 in 2nd with the g60 box, well mine does anyway!

ya its pretty much the same as the corrado box. just need to get some 100mm bolt in output flanges. when i did mine i found a pair of flanges under the bench dont know what they came out of maybe mk3 16v abf box. you can even use the original drive shafts. and you will have to put in the mk4 shifter.

cut out all the brackets for the old shifter,

get the mk4 shifter and take the ridges off the side of it so it will fit in the tunnel.

drill 2 holes in front of the hole in the tunnel for the studs on the front of the mk4 shifter

make a small bracket that goes from the back of the shifter to the top of the tunnel on the inside of the car.

job done

about a half days work.

I got a shift mech from a 02j Bora. It's a direct fit with no modifications required at all. (if anything it's even a better fit than the orig 02a shift mech). The only thing taht I reckon I'll change is the lenghth of the shift lever itself, as it's bit long.

I'll try dig out the details for it in the morning.

The top of the gear stick is probably about 4-5cm higher than the top of the orig stick.
