starting issue

Recommended Posts

hi guys if any one can help with this i would appreciate it.

story is. vr6, only 1 key, got a new key made up with transponder etc. tried new key wouldnt start, turns over but does not fire. tried old key exactly the same.

i had not started the car for a few days before doing this, and only other thing i have done is give the engine abit of a clean ( which sounds dodgey) but to my knowledge i hadnt took any connectors off, spayed brake cleaner to wash any oil off bell housing.

wondering if a new key could of possibly done anything but i wouldnt of thought so.

i have had it jacked up to 1 side, is there a fuel cut off switch, incase of accident that might of been switched by this?

cheers casual

checked all the fuses, and there is fuel at the injectors/ pressure take off.

just hoping its not the key that has caused this problem

found in the engine bay one of the two fuses has blown the 5amp by the coolant tank. cant find in the hand book anywhere that this leads to, if anyone can point me in the right direction for this it would be a gret help. i have replaced the fuse however now it still does not fire up but i get a short circuit type sound (crackling) while ignition is on???

the wires from these fuses seem to join up and go to the fan motor so i was prosuming it was the fan run on fuse, one of them, however it seems to loose a couple of wires along the way which i can not see anywhere..........

need to get myself a diagram for a vr6 or mayb one of those cd's off ebay, are they any good ?

what a lovely saturday

i thought id given ll this up, when i sold my old mini.

cheers in advance

AFAIK thats just related to the cooling system, the fans i think. Cant see that stopping the car starting. Can you hear the pump when you turn the ignition on? Whats the number on the relay thats clicking someone will be able to tell you what the relay is for? Could possibly the ignition switch also.

If it's the transponder in the key, I believe the engine starts and cuts out after about a second...

Oh, and that is the fan and aux water pump control unit... The 5 amp fuse is for the aux pump, which might be shot if the fuse is blown, and the 10 amp fuse is for the fans I think...

ahhh cheers for that, well i got it sorted in the end..well in process of being sorted.

i phoned specialist i got it from and i was waiting on a bloke to ring me who checked the car over....well i got bored of waiting so i went round all the main sensors checking the resistance and voltage. got the values off autodata, all fine apart crank sesnor gave me an intermittent reading, made sure all plugs n contacts clean.

tried to start it n it fired up.....

seems the crank sensor was dodgey, wiggled it about n the engine cut out.

random that it was fine driving it into my garage 1 day then few days later its a no go-er. especially as id just had spare key copied..... ah well lesson learnt.

cheers for the help tho. spent whole wknd polishing n undersealing :D
