half-9 0 Posted December 29, 2003 Hello, I recently bought a 1991 G60, I aim to turn it into a bit of a monster. As such I have had the engine rebuilt and head ported & flowed, the cam profile has been 'modified' to allow higher lift. I plan to do all the usual mods with regard to charger pulley, injectors etc However, I have the following problems (pre-chipping) no power before 2 rpm - but flys on the motorway i.e. higher revs I can smell petrol when idling sloppy gear change perforated intercooler - (this will be changed soon) very noisy belt/pulleys Car is stock in all respects apart from recent work. Can anyone recommend a G60 specialist? I am new to this car & the VW scene. Thanks in advance

G60 0 Posted December 29, 2003 nice purchase 8) give er a tune up. vac lines, blue coolant sensor, spark plugs/wires, injector cleaner, etc etc and see how that helps the petrol smell and pull down low. also, check your timing. very easy to retard/advance. sloppy gear change. try changing the gearbox oil. redline makes a good gearbox oil. MT90 i think its called. get a FMIC or an A/W cooler. change the noisy pullies/belts... they shouldnt be noticable unless you have toothed drive. have fun  edit: hey cool i can have pics in my sig now. nice one andi! h100vw 0 Posted December 29, 2003 Like G60 says, she needs a tune up. You need to check the vac hose to the ECU. It should be a metre long and coinnected to the top outlet on the throttle body. The smell of petrol will be due to some bad input to the ECU. It is dumping fuel to prevent damage to the engine. It is however, not concerned with the damage to your wallet, in money terms!! My money is on the vac hose being too short or on the wrong outlet. Gavin
steveo29 0 Posted December 29, 2003 the rubber hose often perishes at the end of the fuel rail..check for leaks as it can be dodgy
W3RKD 0 Posted December 29, 2003 also check the small pipe that runs from your inlet manifold to the fuel pressure reg..
half-9 0 Posted December 30, 2003 Thanks, I will do the checks tonight. I am based in NW9, also when you say give it a tune up where should I go to get this done, or is this something I can do? Additionally, I peformed the boost check as described in other messages, the boost reads 1010 and does not change irrespective engine speed. There is obviously something wrong, but what do i need to check? Cheers H
h100vw 0 Posted December 30, 2003 Have you driven your car with the MFA in the check mode? If it never comes off 1000 you have a monster boost leak somewhere. What do you mean by perforated intercooler in pour first post?????? If it has holes in it then the charger will struggle/never be able to pressurise it. GazzaG60 0 Posted December 31, 2003 my standard intercooler had a hole in it. it made about 5 psi
half-9 0 Posted January 2, 2004 When I say perforated - I mean like a PG tips tea bag - i am getting this changed very soon! I am actually having a front mounted Porsche 944 intercooler squeezed in!
W3RKD 0 Posted January 2, 2004 When I say perforated - I mean like a PG tips tea bag - i am getting this changed very soon! I am actually having a front mounted Porsche 944 intercooler squeezed in! if the coolers leaking this IS you problem ...will be cured with new intercooler.. the porka one is quite deep though do you have a rs bumper ? as i think you would need one to run the porka intercooler...
