ropey siezed calipers?

256mm disks are fine, certainly not an MOT fail if working properly, they just fade sooner than 280's would

NO NEED TO SHOUT! :)

if you don't buy a pair of 280's from the forum, it's worth noting that early mk3 GTI's and VR6 golfs had 280's too, same parts as the G60 ones, just need the G60 disks instead of the 5 stud mk3 disks

Buy those calipers in the thread I linked to at £60 then buy some genuine VW 280mm brake discs at approx £25 a side.. then some decent pads of your choice. You should be braking pretty good if you get that lot and shouldn't cost you much more than about £150 all in.

I'm trying to say this as nicely as possible mate but if you've got other priorities in your life then don't spend money doing a half-arsed upgrade on brakes - you'll just end up wasting money on a temporary solution which won't be up to the job. Put the money you can afford to spend aside then upgrade them when you've got the whole amount together?

Why not buy the calipers / carriers now as they're a good price - then pick up new discs & pads when you can afford it. I run the 280mm brakes on my 2.0 16v and they're pretty decent - worth £150 as they might just save your life one day.

i was just an idea as the mot is couple weeks and more than likely needs calipers anyway so was just seeing how much it would cost to do 280 instead buyin cailpers for mot for couple weeks to change again if you get me.

are you still looking for a complete 280mm set up? i have just removed calipers, carriers, disks, pads and hoses from my vr6 and can sell them to you? all in perfect working order, i just upgraded to 288mm!

Steve, your discs will be 5stud won't they? Probably not much use to the fella.

yeah they are but i do have everthing else he wanted, he would just need some 4 stud disks? just thought i would ask!
