RallyRaddo 0 Posted July 12, 2009 Folks, The engine isn't running since rebuilding the cylinder head after blowing the head gasket. Nephew (Mechanic) thinks it's either the timing or loss of compression. I'm going to do a compression test this coming week and if that looks OK, will let my local garage have it to see if they can get it running. We are fed up scratching our heads & bums. I will give them a max of 2 hours labour as I am not really wanting to have a huge bill for a car that I plan to sell as soon as possible. If I can't get the engine running, what's an acceptable asking price for a non running, spares of repair, Nugget Yellow, 1991 H Reg? I have receipts for just over £2000 over the past 2 years. Body work is fair & some of the rust has been taken care of and resprayed around the arches and so on The roof has some deep gouges in the paintwork that would need seeing to Rear spoiler works fine Non standard after market sunroof tilt / slide Pretty decent interior, no holes in the rear shelf Wolfrace alloys that have seen better days (4) no spare though Passenger elec window motor U/S, drivers one sticks sometimes & needs a push up Headlight upgrade done, though wiring needs tidying up Brand new floor mats (Used once since my mussus bought them for my Christmas & then the head gasket went) New heater matrix New heater fan New brakes & calipers for last MOT Heavy duty VR Clutch kit MOT & Tax have expired, so if it were to go as spares, someone would have to collect from Aberdeenshire. It was my daily car till head gasket failure on New Years Eve 2008. I'm basically fed up with it in the garage taking up space & want to get shot of it. Not interested in breaking for spares, I don't have the time or inclination. Had planned to compete in it when I originally bought it, hence ID on here, but the car has been a constant uphill battle just to keep it on the road, let alone give it hard competitive use. Over to the experts now for what you think. Cheers Kev
Joe_60 0 Posted July 12, 2009 Surely you are better off checking the timing first as if this is wrong the compression test will come out as low anyway?
RallyRaddo 0 Posted July 12, 2009 OK Joe, thanks. I am not a mechanic so claim no knowledge about this type of thing.
vr6storm 0 Posted July 12, 2009 by the sounds of it its likely to be a breaker rather than a restoration project also with being up here in Aberdeenshire people will be very reluctant to come this distance just for a breaker I know of someone who MIGHT be interested in it but I know he will will only go £100 at most,as he'll be factoring in the picking it up and making money off it obviously,as we bought a running but Mot fail G60 3 years ago for breaking for the £300 mark so a nugget yellow valver with a knackered engine I'm afraid is worth a lot less

RallyRaddo 0 Posted July 12, 2009 Yeah VR6. I am thinking along the lines of Panda Rosa for £150 just on the weight as scrap. Would be good though if someone was to at least get the use of the parts if they bought the whole car though. Cheers for your input. Jack, it's a 1.8 16v Kev

Jack, it's a 1.8 16v Kev by the time they factor in picking it up too I very much doubt you'll even get that for it,the person i know works for John Laurie's and can give you an idea of the present scrap value,in fact he tells me that you'll only get approx £60-ish at present values anyway his name is Martin and his mobile is 07745882376
RallyRaddo 0 Posted July 12, 2009 Would take it there myself, on the trailer. A mate of mine did this a few weeks back with an escort, about same weight I rekon, £150 cash he got for it. Would probably take the wheels off in case someone wanted them cheap.
