RPM takes forever to get to 3000 but is fine after that?

Recommended Posts

Oh hello!

I'm new to the forum, so hello, I am Ben :)

Nice to meet you all.

Anyway, I have a 1992 2.0 16v, and when I rev it up a little, even in neutral, foot to the floor, whatever, the rpm takes a good few seconds to get up to 2500-3000ish, but is fine after that?!

What could this be? I am assuming it shouldn't be quite this slow!

Forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong place or something!

Cheers!

-Ben

Ah cheers I'll have a look at that. Previous owner had it changed before he had it though, and claimed to have no issues.

oh forgot to mention it also has a low idle problem too, which we assume just to be idle control valve...

Will know more after fiddling i reckon! :D

Checked for air leaks in the intake before the throttle body but didn't see anything, then again it's all covered in oil and dark.

it is also a little smoky too it seems? beign my first time owning a vw of such age I am not sure what to expect! But head gasket and everything appear to be okay, if that'd make any difference...
