ABF Corrado not starting..

Recommended Posts

Right then - my ABF Corrado on K-Jet

My Corrado died a few weeks ago while I was driving. Got towed home and then decided to work out what was wrong. There was oil in the spark plugs so I replaced the Rocker Cover and cleaned that all up. Thinking it would start I tired. Noting.

Next I went and traced the spark and learnt that I had none. Replaced the coil pack and later replaced the dizzy. While doing this I tested all the leads to make sure they were not broken etc. Its now sparking but not starting. replaced the plugs while I was here too.

Then suddenly it started and the timing was out so I adjusted it. Seemed to idle fine. Went to drive it and under any acceleration the engine would hop about jump around. The rev counter would bounce around from 2k to 5k. I stopped the car and it would not start again..

I now cant start the car. its got spark, its got air, its got fuel, the engine turns over..

Its an early ABF 93/94 and its an 98 Rado.

Its doing my head in. :mad2:

The rev counter bouncing around and the other symptoms suggest its misfiring. Could be that your coils breaking down under load, its easier to spark at idle than when at full load due to the density of fuel and air in the cylinder. If your coils on its way out it might be just OK at idle but generate those problems under load. Thats the 1st thing I'd check/change.
