muppetlab 0 Posted February 1, 2010 Just been quoted £143 for a rear abs sensor from a vw dealer, they are having a laugh surely? Or is this the normal going rate at stealers these days? Was prepared for maybe £70 but not twice that. Looks like its a pattern part for me i can get 5 for that price and replace them every few months and still be quids in. Crazy :cuckoo:
delfinis38 1 Posted February 1, 2010 I spotted a few on ebay last week that were VAG cant remember if they were front or rear and they were only £30 ish not sure if they are there now. I paid £37 for a rear about 3 years ago from VW.... Prices seem to be going up as parts come few. I had a quote on a part last week from VW and it had doubled in six months ! muppetlab 0 Posted February 1, 2010 Yep fleabay here i come. Poor dealers must be feeling the pinch what with the recession and all. Have to make money somewhere i guess. I dare not even ask them how much fitting would be
Critical_Mass 10 Posted February 1, 2010 i would imagine £30 was for the fronts... sounds about right. The rears are double that.
muppetlab 0 Posted February 1, 2010 Trouble is the dealer could not tell me what brand the sensor was, so it could be the same as the ebay one or maybe the eurocar parts ones for £60 odd, and you are just paying vw premium on top? Are the aftermarket ones that bad?

davidwort 0 Posted February 1, 2010 FEBI isn't OEM the parts are generally good quality but may not be as good as the original VW themselves change suppliers for parts and even the same supplier may provide different quality parts to VW and the pattern market, only way to be totally sure is pay VW prices. I haven't had any bad experiences with FEBI bits though unlike some of the pattern stuff you can buy.

You sure Dave, I've seen Febi parts with vw part numbers stamped on them, that was in my MK2 Golf days though :)
davidwort 0 Posted February 1, 2010 I have FEBI track rods, they are different to VW ones that were on the car (only one flat to get a spanner on the inner joint) also febi rear engine mount, again slightly different to VW one Febi bushes (especially rear axle) are known to not last as long as OEM (supercharged should vouch for this one) Febi may well supply VW with some parts, but there's been all sorts of discussions about how some of these suppliers actually make different quality parts especially for VW, bearings being a prime example, I believe some brands actually use a different factory and different quality control for VW supply, so brand name isn't always a guide either. Of course some parts are clearly VW quality but without the VW logo mounlded into them, my Denso Marsden radiator is UK made and bought from VW (identical to original 20yr old one) and I'm sure could be sourced from elsewhere if you have the right contacts in the trade. Supercharged 2 Posted February 1, 2010 Yeah FEBI stuff is ok (better than the Vibring stuff that coes out of china anyway) but not OEM... It won't last as long either but then that is reflected in the price, I wouldn't touch any bearings or bushes though inc top mounts - just to much work to keep changing them every year or two! Philmo 0 Posted February 1, 2010 Last July I bought a front on the bay from B&B Components Tel 01622677662. £9.99 + P&P. It was ref LHC323 so not sure what make it was, but it was identical inc the ref No to the one it replaced. It works fine!
