horn wiring

Recommended Posts

sorry didnt know whether to go engine bay or interior for this.

does the wiring for the horn go through a relay?

discovered today i get a clicking noise like when a relay has gone. instead of a nice horn noise. i wasnt aware they did so am a bit confused.

any clues people?

The loom or wires for the horn are part of the main engine loom that goes back to the fusebox so yes, they are on a relay. I think it's 53? You might have a loose connection or the relay isn't pushed in?

come on then boys and girls im struggling on this one.

when i take the relay 53 out as shaun said then it stops the clicking noise. but as you would expect no horn sound.

there is a second 53 relay in my fuse board but when i plug this in to the other slot it does the clicking again.

any clues what i can try? or what wires are for the horn (from steering cloumn) so i can run them straight to it, instead of through the relay?

cheers jim

Might not be the relay, maybe a knackered horn. They're right in the line of fire behind the grill, worth getting a test lamp on the case.

cheers dude i did some digging around yesterday. they have a permanent live and a switched earth.

the cables run behind where relay position 7 is. black/brown negative, black/yellow live.

i ran two new cables through but still nothing so i came to the conclusion that the horn is dead, went to test from the battery but the voltage had dropped to 1.5v. doh, what incredibly bad timing for it to run out of juice.

£39.50 for a new horn from vw though

so i think im going to nick one out of the old dears mazda's. havnt told them that yet though
