sensor?

had my car sat 4 a week ,came to start it ,dead,used jump leads 2 get it going again...fine ..went to collect a friend ,as we drove off, the car went crazy stereo/lights etc flickered & the motor stoped :mad: turned the key dead again :mad: :mad: :mad:

anyway manage to get it going again ...next day stoped 2 turn around ..tryd 2 pull away & there was hardly any power like it was tryin to cut out(lights dimming again) had 2rev it a lot ..then it was fine again .... its now done this a few times :roll: (the car starts fine now)but i still have the car tryn 2 cut out occasionaly...what could it be ??sensor? if so which ?where? :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

might be the infamous ignition switch :wink: .......if you do a search using ignition switch and problems you should find some hopefully useful info :wink:

had a similar prob with my 16v...turned out to be a engine thermo switch (something like that)...now its sorted the problem :lol:

tryd searching 4 the ignition switch ,couldnt find the same prob...started the car 2day left the car running to get it warm..went back out 5-10mins later & the car had stoped running :mad: ,tryd 2 start it again ... it wouldnt start :!: electrics still worked ie fan inside the car/stereo etc

sounds like ignition switch then.

 

I just had mine changed, 20 quid from the stealer

When you say "wouldn't start", what EXACTLY did it do? would it turn the starter motor and engine over but not catch, did it do sod all or what? :?

 

It is sounding like you may well have a dodgy ignition switch, see HERE for replacement instructions... 8)

Cheers Henny, i'll be using your instructions to actually get mine into the steering column, seeing as its just hanging by the wires atm ;)

just spoken with the guy who had the car last& he says he put in a new ign switch (approx 1year ago) do u think thats gone allready :?: :?: when i tryd 2 start it all i heard was (petrol pump niose )then what sounded about half a sec of engine turn over... next turn of the key &....................nothing... :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :mad: :cry: :cry:

having probs starting mine...and found out it could be the grey plastic bit under the air pipe...in front of the airbox. If its undone, it'll cause an airleak and cut off injectors...but yours sounds more like pump.

ive had the speedo-clocks out 4 repair there is a air pipe going to the oil pr ,if this has twisted or been put on wrong ...could this be causing any probs? cheers lads 4 the help so far
