ridders 0 Posted April 20, 2010 Hi all from me and my sub-entry level early 16v.... Always vw but never a Corrado until now. Like most of you on here its something thats always been on my 'i want one of those' list. Finally took the plunge and purchased one advertised on here. Its not that pretty to look at (yet) but seems to have been mechanically well looked after and ran a dream on the drive back home earlier today. The spolier works!! The body has a combination of surface rust, dents, scuffs, lacquer peel and the obligatory pink faded red paintwork. By the time i've finished it will have a pair of new doors and front wings and at least both side flatted back, prepped for painting in its original tornado red. The rest will get away with a cut, mop and polish. Obviously i will go through the car mechanically giving it a thorough strip, clean and major service including all fluids and belts. The car will keep its original sebring alloys as they are in great condition with no major marks. They will get a light re-furb though. The suspension will also remain stock as the stack of receipts with the car show that most of it been replaced in recent years. Interior wise its all there just needing a good clean. As i'm quite anal i will be removing most of it to strip and clean before refitting. The drivers seat has the usual side bolster wear and maybe replaced with a better one together with the original steering wheel as this has too started to fray. Pictures will be posted in the next couple of days showing 'now'.
ridders 0 Posted April 20, 2010 Today job was swapping the broken drivers door handle over. Only way in before was through the passenger door however like an idiot i parked it up last night on the drive about 6" from the wall and got out the drivers door in the normal way and locked. Come to it today and doh :bad-words: couldn't get in as drivers door handle buggered and no way passenger door due to parking too close... a trip through the boot later was enough to force the door handle change to the top of the list. As the car still had the one key for all locks i took the time to strip the the lock down in order to swap the barrel over. A bit fiddly but got there in the end. Cleaned all the old grease/swarf off and re-greased all the moving parts. Anyway about an hour later the job was done and now everything is working. ridders 0 Posted April 21, 2010 Today... Replaced the old naff grey parcel shelf, which had a pair of 6 x 9's fitted, with a nice mint uncut dark grey/black one to match the rest of the interior. Only paid a tenner for it :D
sjw 0 Posted April 23, 2010 Good work already - way to go! For the sake of Whitedog (and anyone else) who wants pics - no doubt Ridders will be getting the camera out at some point but in the meantime my old thread is still there (although locked) and has quite a lot of pics... viewtopic.php?f=12&t=90667

ridders 0 Posted June 18, 2010 Engine wise is a genuine 98k with history 1.8 16v. Thought about changing or modding it but feel it would be a shame to spoil a genuine car. Probably going to keep it stock all over. Now decided having seen the car that the side mouldings are staying off! My mates are all wanting me to upgrade the engine, drop the suspension and stick a stainless exhaust on it. Again thoughts and comments on this welcome.
