Typhy 0 Posted April 26, 2010 its not a deffo but i quite fancy a storm when i get rid of my Focus RS, i enjoyed my 1.8 16v but wasnt very powerful, how good are storms? i dont want a normal VR, im just wondering is it worth investing in a high milage storm? if so am i best going for one with a decent history? how much is an engine rebuild roughly? i want to kill some rude boy racers in sumat old again ppl expect my RS to beat them but not sumat as old unless ppl no what there talkin about
tandino 0 Posted April 26, 2010 Why must it be a Storm?, There is nothing really different to a late leathered up VR but for a couple of badges, Solitude's and a colour coded grille..
Typhy 0 Posted April 26, 2010 i no there arent any amazing differences but why not get a storm? the prices dont vary that much and i dont want cloth seats if i got an early one n i dotn want to start replacing them liek i did before, just would be nice to have a storm, also while im replying, the corrado specialist (TCS) heard bad things and good things, what are people opinions? tandino 0 Posted April 26, 2010 There is still a premium with Storms, not as much as it used to be as the prices for all Corrado's have dropped. Personally i would just look for the best condition VR6 regardless of it being a storm model or not.. I would rather have a recaro leathered air con'd VR6 over a Storm all day looooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnngggggggg and im sure most would agree....
VR6 Lee 0 Posted April 26, 2010 Storms are a future classic
Critical_Mass 10 Posted April 26, 2010 All Corrados are future classics! :D But yeah id have to agree with tandino. Unless the Storm is in better nick etc then any 'normal' VRs you've seen then i dont see the advantage. Just try to find the best example VR you can regardless if its a Storm or not :D
VR6 0 Posted April 26, 2010 'Early' and 'late' don't just refer to non-Storm and Storm. There are plenty of better spec'd VR's without having to get a Storm.
Portent 0 Posted April 26, 2010 I've been looking for a VR6 recently and took a look at a couple of Storms. I'd have bought one of them if my circumstances hadn't changed slightly at the time. But now I'm really not bothered about it being a Storm. Admittedly it would be the icing on the cake and if there are two fantastic cars then I;d take the Storm. But, but as said above, I'd take a good quality car over a poor quality Storm. I also think that any modifications to a Storm can devalue it (personal opinion). If I were to get a Storm then it would have to be as close to original as possible. And that includes the Solitudes.
OllieVR6 0 Posted April 26, 2010 All Corrados are future classics! :D IMO they are classics already :D
VR6 Lee 0 Posted April 27, 2010 yeah but its extra special to get a STORM as thet were limited
coullstar 0 Posted April 27, 2010 If you get the premium back when you come to sell then fair enough but at the end of the day is it worth paying extra just for a badge? As said above get the best condition car you can, its not like there are Corrado's on every street so they are reasonably rare anyway.
wy906 0 Posted April 27, 2010 ......But yeah id have to agree with tandino. Unless the Storm is in better nick etc then any 'normal' VRs you've seen then i dont see the advantage. Just try to find the best example VR you can regardless if its a Storm or not :D + 1, find the best example within your budget, Storm or not! When I was looking for VR6s, I really wanted one with leather trim and in Dark Burgundy Pearl / Bordeaux Pearl Effect / blackberry, basically dark metallic red or purple. Then I realised original, un-modified, good examples in these specific specs are really hard to come by. I decided just to buy the best example that I could afford. I can always have mine re-sprayed to Bordeaux Pearl when I win the lottery or something. :) Good luck with your search!
tandino 0 Posted April 27, 2010 yeah but its extra special to get a STORM as thet were limited Thats a bit like the Mk1 Gti Campaign vs normal Mk1 Gti, Bottom line is they are so rare in good nick that there is little or no premium over a Campaign than a stock Mk1 Gti nowadays. Reality is no one is going to pay much more if anything in afew years for a Storm over a equally as tidy VR6 with leather, if Storms had something over a stock VR6 like a factory VSR manifold or some equally as rare factory upgrade then sure but they dont.... Pays your money and takes your choice (but dont pay much more for a Storm!)
mbradbrook 0 Posted April 28, 2010 Personally i would take my standard VR with leather, electric heated recaros, aircon and headlight washers over any similar condition storm. As everyone else has mentioned - condition is the most important thing when buying. It is such a shame that VW didn't make more of an effort with the storm - eg VSR and improved suspension etc - then i think it would be worth paying a premium. Standard vw leather, storm badges, painted grill and wheels as fitted to many 8v mk3 Golf gtis doesn't do it for me. :D Matt
