BigTartanJudge 0 Posted February 3, 2004 Ok guys, I need help and fast! One of the two gear selector cables snapped today on the way to work in my G60 resulting in having no gears and I had to get towed home...,VW dealer has quoted £123.38 all in to supply and fit inc VAT. How does this sound? Is there any way I can get the part cheaper? Its actually the metal end of the cable (the bracket part) that has snapped through old age. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated, Cheers BigTartanG60
Rossco 0 Posted February 3, 2004 £123 fitted is a pretty good deal i would say bud, when i got my car one of the cables was help together by gardening twine  So i decided to change them, i got another set off a passat at the scrappies cos its all the same. The main bastard in changing them is that you have to drop the middle section of your zorst, I would personally say just let the dealer do it, your gonna get brand new cables and not have to worry about puttin them in. Do it Rossco
20valver 0 Posted February 3, 2004 I'd second that. Mine went on my 16v and it I had to first remove one of an old passat at the scrappy and then fit it to mine which involves dropping the exaust etc etc. it's not a quick job!!
Rossco 0 Posted February 3, 2004 There you go struan a unanimous decision  Nah seriously let the dealer headache over it and at 123 notes its a pretty good deal, was that the main speccy cars yeh???
BigTartanJudge 0 Posted February 3, 2004 Yeah Ross, It's Specialist Cars who are doing the work-hope they behave themselves with the motor. Bavaria Autowerke were going to be £135 and Volks Centre quoted £145 so went for Speccy Cars in the end after gettting the car towed from St Machar Drive by C.A.R.S Recovery this morning..., Apparently the cables aren't available individually and are a dealer only part anyway, according to Eurocarparts, is there not some discount you can get from the dealers anyway if you have a Corrado - VW Parts Club or summat? Cheers all BigTartanG60

Cheers all BigTartanG60 i think they have plenty R32's and the like to play with so don't worry about yer motor in their care  and only if you are in the VWCGB will you get any discount and parts club isn't available unless you already have a trade account with speccy cars.......besides i think the parts dept aint gonna be too generous with discount these days struan
BigTartanJudge 0 Posted February 3, 2004 Yeah maybe so Roddy but hardly my fault is it eh?! The fact of the matter is my car is in there and have already "had words" with them before following our last meeting so I just hope that they behave, tbh not really interested in other high spec customers cars they have in only my own at this moment...., Cheers BigTartanG60
