USA Head Unit

Recommended Posts

Any reason why a US Sony head unit wouldn't work in a UK Corrado? Found the head I want cheaper in the US inc shpping than in the Uk, thanks James.

us use odd numbers for fm freq, but in europe, well i am in Ireland, so i rekon the uk is the same, we use all freqs, odd and even!

for example 100.4 fm couldnt be gotten on a us spec head unit, you could get 100.3 and 100.5!

Now if it says it gets all the bandwith, go for it!

yup, spot on... 8)

The euro range has a 0.05 scale (you can tune into 105.45 if you want to, although all UK stations use just a 0.1 scale - 105.4, 98.9 etc)

The US scale is completely different... You also have the same problems with Jap/asian stereos as they use a much smaller range (89 - 104 IIRC) where we use 85 - 107 (ish!)

I know that some American radios are switchable (Bought an Awia walkman there about 12 years ago with a euro/american switch for the radio range) but I can't see why they'd have that on a car radio...

Hope this helps... 8)

I bought mine in the states, off of ebay. As it is a Blaupunkt you can set it for Europe. Based upon the above, check to see if the model is a US only.

As stated above, some units do have the European compatibilty eg. I think the Clarions do. I suppose it depends if you're that bothered about the radio really, I mean I never listen to the radio in my car so consequently I bought a brand spanking new top range Alpine 'phantom face' MP3 unit from the US for £210 including the £45 postage!! The same unit in the UK costs £550 + !!!!!................
