G60. Running issues. Loss of power

Recommended Posts

Ok, it's not a Corrado but i thought id try anyway as im at a loss here!

I've got a bit of an issue of late with my car. Ill try and describe best i can.

I recently fitted a 68mm pulley and it was running fine, but i also had the chip to go with it.

I fitted the chip and then noticed i had a few flat spots - not that bad though. The guy who i got the chip off said he had an uprated fuel regulator to smooth out the power delivery. Made sense so i fitted one.

Car drove awfully and lost pretty much all power. When i put my foot down in any gear i got a bi of black smoke out the back - overfueling.

I thought my car must just not like the chip so i took it off. The car is driving better but from 3rd gear onwards if your going slow and you put your foot down, there's hesitation and black smoke.

I've adjusted the fuel regulator, but i don't have a gauge to set it. The car now drives ok if you boot it up the gears, but as soon as you take it easy in a high gear and you put your foot down there's hesitation and it doesn't pick up.

Now i've adjusted the fuel regulator down all the way to just before the car would cut out and it's still the same, so reverting back to the standard fuel regulator surely would make no difference?

Is it a case of adjusting the fuel regulator slowly until it runs properly or is there something else wrong?

To add to all this is seems to have developed a warm start issue as well. I've replaced all of the housing and the blue temp sensor. But if i take it off the car will start ok most of the time.

Appreciative of any help!

Thanks

G60's are sensitive to fuel pressure regulators. Most people either use the standard one or a porsche 3.5bar one instead. I don't know of anyone using adjustable ones and I have been advised against them by a few tuners. Find out from the guy who had it previously who wrote the chip - they should be able to give you a proper answer as to what the chip is meant to be run with.

Yeah i may just revert it back to the standard fuel pressure regulator. The chip has now been taken off, the car was running fine without it anyway.

I would go back to standard reg and the chip you are running at the moment then as you are planning to do. I'd definately follow up with whoever made the chip though - the right chip on a good setup transforms the G60 engine.
