Going to paint mine and wondered can the caseing be removed..? or do i have to take the whole thing off..?

You remove the whole mirror body by twisting it at the base and exposing the 2 screws that hold it to the door.

They can be a real bugger to move.

 

The black surround around the mirror itself can also be removed but you need to get the glass off first. Knowledge base mentions how to do that.

Then there are screws easily seen holding the black plastic on, a clip at the 'car' side and 1 more sneaky screw that you need to twist the base again and look up from beneath.
