Temp issue

My water/oil temp seams to take ages to warm up and once warm it goes resonably high 94+ and then takes ages to come down again.

 

Am I right in thinking the thermostat is to blaim?

94 isn't high at all for the oil, Jake.

 

Maybe worth changing it though if it hasn't been done for a while. Change the housing too- cheap for the valver. Bloody awkward job though!

My VR takes a while to come down, how long before your oil/water gets up to temperature?

When its fully warm, drive a few mins at say 40 mph without thrashing the engine. Then stop driving and feel the top and bottom rad hoses by the battery, engine doesn't need to be running. There should be a distinct temp difference if the thermostat is working. If the they are near enough the same, then the thermostat is not operating correctly.

 

Does have the characteristic of a stuck open thermostat.

Thanks RW1 I will give that a try.

 

nlau1 Well I drove 13 miles this morning to drop the mrs off at work and the temp only got to 74

 

But going to get her serviced soon any way.

Right I went for a drive for 20 mins. The engine only got to 74 I felt both hoses and the top was slightly hotter but not by much.

Defo sounds like it's stuck open/partly open. Make sure you get a gen replacement + housing/o-ring. It's worth checking the new stat in a pan of boiling water before fitment.
