Jim 2 Posted February 14, 2004 I've noticed that whilst I am driving around without various pieces of trim, headlining, etc(whilst sunroof is in a state of semi-repair) I can really hear what sounds like my airbox? When accellerating it sounds like darth vader (seriously) sucking in air, but as soon as you let off the gas or depress the clutch so that the engine drops to neutral revs, the noise goes away. Its coming from driver side at the front somewhere, and I had a quick check and couldn't see any of the tubes away from the airbox or anything.. and the car certainly pulls as well as it normally does (grip steering wheel and pray when putting your foot down!!:)) Its weird.. obviously all the headlining is out, and the trim overing the pillars at the front of the car. Wouldn't have honestly thought that such a small amount of trim would quieten the car so much?
Henny 0 Posted February 14, 2004 Welcome to the joys of forced induction... :D 8) 8) That noise is the lovely induction ROAR that G60s produce... I'd bet that someone's taken the snorkel out of the airbox to aid breathing... 8) The roof lining makes a hell of a difference to the overall noise level in a car... It's the only thing between you and a panel that's got just about as much airflow over it as you have on any part of the car! It's actually the airgap in between the lining and the roof panel that makes the difference. The roof will vibrate slightly which will be damped almost to nothing by the roof liner... without it the vibrations affect the whole of the air in the car making it much louder... 8)
Jim 2 Posted February 14, 2004 Thanks Henny. You know I was a little unsure about this car when I bought it, and obviously the broken sunroof and the fact that the car is a very hard ride / quite noisy interior hasn't helped... but that power from the supercharger is intoxicating. Never felt anything like it..
Henny 0 Posted February 14, 2004 Yeah, I know that feeling all too well! ;) my car came with a spare sunroof 'cos the original was broke and scratched (which broke within 3 months of fitting! ) hence why after the 2nd replacement broke I bought the moonroof.... I originally wanted a 16V until I test drove a G60, from then on I was hooked and didn't want anything other than a G60! I even test drove some VR6s and didn't find the "kick" that I experienced from the G60s.... *before I get flamed all over the place, this was just my personal opinion and what I wanted from my Corrado! * The VR6 is a great car, just not what I wanted!
