key won`t turn in ignition?

Hello.

I have a problem with the starting of my car it is to do with the keys and the ignition barrel.

Some times when trying to start the car the key wont turn in the barrel and i have to take the key out a few times and try again till it will turn as normal. any ideas? thanks,Neil

I would guess at the ignition switch fella im sure someone else will confirm

Have to ask but you dont have the steering locked when this happens do you?

Id say its more the barrel then the ignition switch, assuming the steering lock isnt on

Squirt a little WD40 in the lock and put the key in and out a few times, the levers (if they are called that) can sieze a bit and not always move the profile of the key so leave it locked.

Used to get this problem when I 1st got the G60, then I realised the steering lock was doing it & a wiggle of the wheel has done the trick for the last 18yrs.

thanks for responses think wd 40 was the best...the steering lock is not the problem as when it first happened i wiggled it to put steering lock on!..having said that i am no mechanic so there was every chance!

I've had the barrel fail and have to change it. Couldn't move the steering wheel at all or turn the key when mine went.

Since it happened the first time with me I keep some wd40 in the boot just in case :-)
