chopsaw 0 Posted December 7, 2010 Hi there, I'm new to the forum, could someone tell me if there is a Non main dealer UK supplier of new standard headlights for my wifes 2.0 16v. Got a price from my local M/Dealer and nearly fell over. Cheers Dave :brickwall:
Jim 2 Posted December 7, 2010 If you're lucky you may be able to get some from the Genuine Parts Company (GPC) in Luton. But you need to ring them, as their website is a throwback from the 1980's :) Otherwise it's main dealer only! Website is: http://www.gpcvwaudi.com What's wrong with them specifically? Headlights are getting hard to source now but there are various options for repair, etc depending on what's wrong with them. Welcome to the forum by the way :) As another alternative, my VW dealer will knock 10% off list price for me. Happy to supply you a set if you exhaust all avenues at whatever it costs me for them. chopsaw 0 Posted December 7, 2010 Cheers Jim, the silvering on the reflectors is bu**ered, I'll give GPC a call. Thanks again matey. Dave

Dave decent second hand one might be the way to go, don't forget swapping the headlight glass is pretty easy so you could use your current one if a second hand one isn't any good and finally, both pre and post 1992 cars use the same headlight bodies, only the trim at the front and the actual glass are different, so that gives you even more options second hand especially as early lights complete can be cheaper to pick up
Jim 2 Posted December 7, 2010 We found these guys in Birmingham - came reccommended from an MG Rover forum - apparently they suffer very badly from the reflectors flaking! These guys do reflector resilvering.. will work out a lot less than buying new units! http://www.dual-metallising.co.uk/ Dave from DG Autotech just sent off a set of reflectors to them to give them a try, but the MG guys were very complimentary of them. Supercharged 2 Posted January 7, 2011 Not sure it's worth doing the reflectors Jim, especially if you neded new lenses too - it's quite expensive and new (late) lights are £105 each on trade from TPS and available next day.

Really? Hmm.. tempting to get a set at some point for that price whilst I still can!
Supercharged 2 Posted January 7, 2011 Yeah let me know mate and I'll order another pair - way I see it is that a lense is £25 - might as well pay a bit more and get new case, reflector, clips, surround, adjuster + bulbs / wiring etc.
colinstubbs 0 Posted January 7, 2011 can you still get late lenses?
davidwort 0 Posted January 7, 2011 can you still get late lenses? yes, VW or Euro car parts, about the same price.

I think they are a lot more from Euro Dave - I looked at prices yesterday seeing what I could get with the 20% off but they still came out more expensive
