Blair 0 Posted February 18, 2004 Hi all, Hopefully someone has an answer to this, it's getting a bit annoying :) My heater fan is playing up - sometimes I'll start the car and it's fine (I leave it on full so I can tell when I start the car if it's going to work or not). Other times it just doesn't work at all. When it DOES work, it's only for about 2 minutes - then it gradually slows until it stops altogether, and won't start again. Other times I'll notice that it's just started by itself... Weird one eh? I replaced the bonnet earth strap to no avail...any other ideas?
Henny 0 Posted February 18, 2004 New motor.. :? I'd bet the bushes inside the motor are dead... Does it only work on 4th speed as wel? If so, then you need to replace the thermal fuse while you're changing the motor... Euro do the motor (inc. fan) for £49.50 Now for the good news: it's easy to change the fan motor it's easy to change the fan's thermal fuse The thermal fuse is about 50p from Maplins or RScomponents I'm getting one for my 'rado just so I don't have to do it again later on... The one out of the 'rado's going into my Driver to replace the dead fan in there... It's a bit cold on the way to work at the moment... :|
Blair 0 Posted February 18, 2004 Thanks...was wondering if that was the case, but the fact that it works fine sometimes made me wonder if it was something else :) And no, it's doesn't just work on speed 4 - it works on all of them (when it DOES work!) Will give that a go. Thanks! :) Oh by the way - I have no idea how to change it. Whereabouts is it?! Ta :)

crazymarcel 0 Posted February 19, 2004 I had this exact same problem, Heater motor solved it, you can whip one of any mk2 golf from a breakers yard, switch the resistor packs over, as the golf one has a different plug on it, as its only 3 speed as opposed to corrado's four. My heater now works all the time, Chuffed cheap fix
Blair 0 Posted February 22, 2004 Just an update - picked up a new motor on Friday lunchtime, nipped into the house for a screwdriver, whipped off the undertray, whipped out the old motor, transferred the resistor pack over (sheer brute force required here!) and put it all back together. 20 minute job + 58 quid = working interior fan :)
