C.P 0 Posted March 15, 2011 My electric windows in my 89 16v have started to close when i turn off the ignition. before, i could open and close my windows whenever i wanted, with the ignition on or off, as long as the immobiliser was deactivated. but now when i turn my ignition off the windows automatically close and i can't open them without the ignition on. i have had the battery out for an extended period of time if this makes any difference, maybe reset something etc. does anyone know how i can get it back to normal? Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted March 15, 2011 This I think this is a factory setting with the car. The windows raise when you turn off the ignition so you don't leave the windows open. No idea why they didn't do this before in your car but it may have something to do with your immobilizer... ---------- Post added at 03:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:26 PM ---------- Why the :( BTW? It's a nice feature i always thought... Especially with English weather. Why would you wont to leave the windows down?
C.P 0 Posted March 16, 2011 because i often sit in the car, in the sun with the windows down and the sunroof open. It's nice... :) not any more :( but yeah, i was also thinking it would be something to do with the alarm or immobilizer, so i'll see if the manual for them still exists. If not it may have to go to an alarm specialist. Unless anyone knows of another solution?
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted March 16, 2011 Ahh you poor wee man so you are, canee sit in yr car on a bonny day such as tday... tis a wee shame :camp: Check and disconnect the immobilizer and see if that helps. Failing that I have no idea... as i said, I think the way it now closes is how it should behave.
quicky1980 0 Posted March 16, 2011 I've never heard of this before. I would say that alarm could be the fault. Do you have the manual for the alarm, does it say this is an option? I know the windows will close on the switch or through the lock on the door handle but not through the ignition barrel. Are both sides affected? This doesnt sound like a simple fix, may need to trace all the wiring and see if the car is seding a pusle signal to the window module or if its the alarm causing you the problems. C.P 0 Posted March 16, 2011 well i had a look today, it seems that the alarm is sending pulses to the electric window module, because it keeps clicking when i turn the ignition off. I'll see if the alarm instructions are tucked away somewhere but failing that I reckon i'll try to trace the electric window wires and disconnect the alarm wires where they join. Hopefully that sorts it. thanks for the ideas!
