Geo7087 10 Posted March 20, 2011 Ok so Saturday 19th March 2011, drove from Cornwall to Scotland to swap my White VR6 Golf for G811 TAG, the nugget 16v Corrado previously owned by a few on here. On arrival nearly all good, Car drove nicely, however cracked windscreen, kurbed wheels and cracked headlight, but then again to me these wer easily resovable issues once i could drive the car home, Happy days. Paperwork was signed and off we go, now i will admit at this point i made a critical error and did not check all of the paperwork, i found out the consequences of this on the M6 on the journey back to Cornwall... Blue lights... pulled over, turns out the MOT had expired on February the 11th 2011, now lukily the police were happy to let me drive the car home... that is they were until t turned out my insurance hadn't made the switchover i requested by phone that morning,... so thanks to their cock up i also was not insured... brilliant. Passenger of mine not insured to drive other vehicles, so TAG is now impounded in Liverpool until i travel with my step dad to collect it and then sort my insurance, replace bits and get the car MOT'd.... So that in brief is the story of my first day with my new Nugget Corrado, however i have big pans in mind, the guy who i bought the car from is dougievr6 who i tried to contact but will not answer calls. But im accepting my losses and moving on, using whats happened as a big kick to make the car what it deserves to be! scott-mk3 on here did a lot of very hard and detailed work to the car with the bodywork and interior, my plan is to continue this, the wheels will be treated to a full professional refurb, windscreen replaced and genuine mint condition headlight is in the post already. I want to keep a lot of the body OEM, whilst maintaining a very high standard and keeping the car low and stanced (already in the works) also plan to strip down and clean up the engine, thinking a lot of polished items will go down a storm with a possible engine change next year but have bigger plans first So there we go! will keep this thread updated as i go, with the first update coming when i can relese it from impound this week!! The_Dude 0 Posted March 20, 2011 Good move buying the car. Extremely bad move not checking the paperwork. How long do you have until they crush it?
KIPVW 0 Posted March 20, 2011 Ooh Bummer! ought to have told you that it was not tested, :( Karma will do its thing though :) Nice to see it back in safe hands, as i went to view it many moons ago but it had already been sold, alas I got my Nugget in the end which is now in the body shop! Hope all goes well when you get it back.
Geo7087 10 Posted March 20, 2011 I know my own cock up for not checking paperwork, 7 working days to collect the car, going to collect it in the next few days then set about preparing for MOT, just really want to get cracking on it and get it looking immaculate. :)
Diesel Junior 0 Posted March 20, 2011 Blimey what a journey, i guess the devil is in the detail......whatever good luck getting it back as that is a smart C. BTW how much has it been lowered by? 40mm is my guess......Best of luck pal and hope to see this back on the road soon!
G_Dub 0 Posted March 20, 2011 You live and learn I guess. Sounds like you were unlucky to get pulled over by the cozzers but then again it's hardly an inconspicuous car is it! I remember going to buy my Corrado I was so giddy I probably wouldn't have noticed irregularities in the huge pile of paperwork that came with it. But I did stay calm enough to see that it had a current MOT. I presume that the place where the car is impounded will charge you by the day until you go and collect it. Tough blow. Geo7087 10 Posted March 20, 2011 dougie if you weren't aware thats not a problem, its the insurance issue thats caused the car to be impounded. I did try and phone so don't know what happened there? Hope the golf's alright, will miss it badly

Geo7087 10 Posted March 23, 2011 well Tag is home, collected from the impound in Liverpool today, being MOT'd this weekend, windscreen ordered and being fitted tomorrow or friday, headlight ordered, exhaust being wleded up before MOT :) Gave it a very quick clean, 2 bucket method, 3 mitts. It really needs a clay and polish so that will be done very very shortly, also started to slowly chuck my audio in, come pay day i can really start work but for the minute im just glad to have it on my drive sitting looking bang on :) Only took 2 random teaser pics until i get to a good photo location :) And one of my setup for working inside the car at night haha.... Scott-mk3 0 Posted March 23, 2011 Even though i have a folder with over 200 pics of this i still want to see more hahahaha! Glad you got it home finally mate. Did dougie give you the spare paint? If you ever need more ill fire you where i got it as it was online.
Geo7087 10 Posted March 24, 2011 Ideal thanks Scott :) Yeh got the spare paint. Taken all the pics of your old progress thread to keep with the service history for the car, got a nice build up for the car then.
duckdown_hoodrat 0 Posted March 24, 2011 Boys, can you point me in the direction of spare paint? Need to spray my front end up really
Scott-mk3 0 Posted March 24, 2011 Boys, can you point me in the direction of spare paint? Need to spray my front end up really I had the full car sprayed in 2k Solid colour, gloss finish. If your doing bits you will find the colour difference will be major.Yellow very badly fades. The old colour and new colour was a dramatic differnce. I could of polished the car for days and never got the deap yellow back. That was the reason i had the full car done. I got the paint online from paints4u and per litre was only £21. ordered it a few times and always good stuff. LK1B Was the paint code im sure, Nugget Yellow or as they call it Nugget Gelb
Geo7087 10 Posted March 25, 2011 Bit of progress. - New headlight fitted, old item had a whacking great hole in the glass, going to have a play with Joey modding the old cracked item to see how it would look - Foglights weren't working, fuse was fully melted, discovered it was being shorted by the positive and negative terminals hitting each other on the foglights connection, insulated these and a new fuse and job done - Inner lamps weren't working, Fuses again... no shorts this time though, fuses replaced and all working - HID's removed, one was broken anyway and they were just far too bright for the car, will be upgrading the headlight loom instead - My Audio fitted, Alpine I-pod HU, and componant door speakers fitted and amplified, all wiring hidden underneath carpets, all factory speakers checked and working - Front badge removed, prepped, and painted black, it was corroded and past re-finished in the silver, thought id paint it Satin Black, debating a de-badged grille Still have a few jobs to do but i ran out of light, progress will continue this afternoon :)
Geo7087 10 Posted March 27, 2011 Ok so more vital progress on TAG on the build up to MOT - Had a feeling that the immobilisor was causing the car to not start, turned out to be the ignition switch, apparantly common on rado's? So now it fires first time every time thank god! - Exhaust has been removed and sealed up, was cracked around the backbox to tailpipe join and on the centre box, both cracks gummed up for the moment, will either get them welded eventually or replace the system - Discovered a fuel leak... coming from the pump so thats being replaced asap - Handbrake cable on the drivers rear doesnt hold the wheel, found this out when the car was jacked up haha. This will be looked at by the garage before the MOT itself - Removed the airbox to be drilled, turns out it already was but was taped over, removed that and removed the funnel inside the airbox, gives a nice sound now and much better airflow, will be running a cold air feed to the box soon. - Gave it a much needed clay, polish, and wax, came up absolutely beautifully, theres a few stone chips up front to be painted, and a bit of lumpy paint under the fuel cap right on the edge, only just visible, these will be sprayed in the next few months Cleaned exterior photos - Joey Modded the healights and painted the grille badge satin black need to do something about smoking fogs and indicators but not sure yet.... - Cleaned the interior and had a go at striping the carpets haha, fitted my VR6 steering wheel until i sort another 280mm out - Scott will vouch for the condition of the engine bay... this was due to him planning an engine change at the time of painting which he didn't get round to i believe, so i gave it a quick go, much more to do but its better... - Lastly fitted MOT friendly side repeaters, should get away with tail lights as they shine slightly amber, sides were full on red. may be going smoked tops anyways on the rear. Let me know what you think :)

Diesel Junior 0 Posted March 28, 2011 Beautiful Rado well done mate, am enjoying this thread. Try washer fluid reservoir and expansion tank in the dishwasher - the pink and blue makes a big difference to the engine bay! Great job so far keep us informed!
