Andy-H 0 Posted April 18, 2011 Evening folks, I get my smoothed front bumper back from the paint shop soon. This means I have to relocate my front numberplate. What have other folks done with theirs?? I've heard that people use the Mk1 golf numberplate holder but I don't know how it's attached. Pics for Ideas would nice :D
Philuk 0 Posted April 18, 2011 seen some attatched onto the front bumper on the splitter but if you did that i think it would have to go in the middle.
Andy-H 0 Posted April 18, 2011 I do want the plate in the middle, just how to attach it high enough so I don't rip it off every time I go near a speedbump :(
Fulltimejunglist 0 Posted April 18, 2011 will fit through the grilles on the bumper at the bottom, they are jsut a little metal bracket, could make one up easily tbh, id say it can be done easily with the mk1 reg holder but you could just attatch it to some bodged up brackets, had a mk1 and plan on doing this so id say just buy one and work it out when youve got it or just get 2 strips of metal and bend 2 peices to fit somwhere in those grilles and drill a few holes to attatch the reg to it or find other location to place the bracket... You do your bumper yourself?
Andy-H 0 Posted April 19, 2011 I deleted the recess myself and flatted it off Mate but I took it to the bodyshop to finish the prep and paint it. I just used a dremmel and cut out the recess by cutting into the side of the flat edge, pulled the flat part out and then used the soldering iron to melt the two parts back together again as I couldn't get a plastic welding company to touch it as they said it would take hours. Took me 30 minutes to do it :D . Thanks for the heads up on the brackets, I'll make sure there are some bits nearby when I put it on ;)
OllieVR6 0 Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) Hmm, that's a good idea, I always thought you would have to butcher a second bumper to do this job, might go back on my job list :thumbleft: Edited April 19, 2011 by OllieVR6
Andy-H 0 Posted April 19, 2011 I did use a second bumper, just to be sure first :D But it went together really well. I'll post some pics up when I get it back
