jungleterror 10 Posted April 26, 2011 hi, i have just brought my first raddo. and am looking for some basic info! what are the differences between the early and late spec cars. mine is a 1990 1.8 16v, is this an early or late model?? and what are the best sort of mod's are the better ones to go for?? will be picking mine up on thursday... Jim 2 Posted April 26, 2011 Welcome to the forum. Get searching.. we've talked about lots of this kind of stuff before :) The 1.8 16v is an early model.. changeover to later was mid 1992... Mods wise. The 1.8 16v engine can get some good power extracted from it, but you do need to be prepared to spend a few quid on some traditional tuning techniques.. forget about remaps and the like! The best thing you can do is get it taken to a VW specialist for a good service and a tune up and they can advise on some of the things you might want to look into.
