Fuel pump/pipe problems are starting to drive me nuts...

Recommended Posts

Having problems with the fuel pump on my G60, it's located in the fuel tank. Connecting the fuel pump return and sender pipes (still in the tank) there are a couple of fuel pipes, approx 10in long, after a while in the tank they becoming drenched in fuel, go spongy and pop off of the pump. I've had them replaced at a local garage 3 times in the past couple of months and they've poped off again...Anybody got an idea of what pipe I should use??? Have called VW and am awaiting call back, but in the meantime can anybody help???

Thanks.

Hmmm....on my admittedly 16v the pump in the tank has two pipes also, but they fit to the top of the pump assy and therefore do not sit in fuel, but surely, if you get genuine original spec pipes and fittings you should have no problems, did the garage fit genuine VW parts i wonder? Have you looked at ETKA, are there any clips missed off which may need to be there?

I'll go outside & check my G60 at lunchtime but so far as I'm aware the main pipes shouldn't go into the fuel tank. They should connect to the fuel sender unit top flange - under the rear seat but outside the tank. The pump inside the tank should just be a small plastic lift pump mounted onto the fuel level sender unit. The main fuel pump is mounted underneath the car, close to the OSR wheel.

Do these pipes go from the inside of the mounting flange to the small plastic pump ??

Thanks for your response, here’s a better description of where you’ll find the pipes causing me grief...

If you removed the black cap that’s located in the boot, you’ll see the fuel sender/return pipes on the top of the fuel pump. If you remove these, also the electric plug thingy, next twist the black plastic screw on cap and the top cap can be lifted from the fuel tank. This then reveals the 10in (ish) fuel pipes that are giving me major grief – they link the fuel pump cap to the actual pump. I’m still awaiting a call back from VW, so hopefully I’ll be able to get hold of a pair of the original pipes!?!?!?

Thanks.
