Bobby 0 Posted March 4, 2004 After the recent session of things going wrong on my engine i was thinking of buying a complete engine and putting that it depending on how the engine in runs when i get the head back on. So was wondering how hard a job it will be and what is the best way to go about changing the complete engine for another 1.8 16v one(like if removing the front end helps to make things easier) any tips would be much apprecaited. Thanks Bobby :D
Henny 0 Posted March 4, 2004 the way to do it is to unbolt the bumper, slam panel, front cross members, and drive shafts. The engine can then be lifted off the rear engine mounts and pulled straight out of the car complete with gearbox... 8) Obviously you need to undo the wiring and coolant/fuel pipes as well as remove the lights, grille etc etc etc, but that's the basics to it anyway... ;) I'd never taken an engine out of a C before and I still managed to take it out and strip the engine to a bare block on my own in about 8 hours 8)
Bobby 0 Posted March 4, 2004 i was thinking if it comes to this i would be able to leave the gearbox in place and just remove the lump complete as the gearbox seem ok. I've helped a mate do a mk4 polo and we dropped the whole subframe and struts along with gearbox can this be done done on the corrado or does it just make things more difficult :?: . How many corrado have u had then henny, just out of interest? Thanks again bobby
Henny 0 Posted March 4, 2004 I've had 2... an H plate 1.8 KR and my current J-DUB G60... 8) It's a shed load easier to remove the gearbox with the engine then take the box off the engine when it's not in the cramped engine bay... You can drop the lot out as you describe, but it needs a 2 post lift and isn't easy to do at home without one... :? It's much easier to take the front off and pull the engine straight out... I have a MKI as well which the front isn't removable on... to get the engine outta that you need to drop the engine onto the floor and then lift the car off the engine! Not fun to do at home!
