G60 not boosting

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I've recently put a G60 engine in my 1.8 16v including dash wiring loom and fusebox.. But my problem is that it's not boosting I've checked for leaks and checked the charger it's seems to be working ok.. I've also checked the linkage on the throttle and the return is fully closed when suckin and open when throttle is closed.. Have you any ideas or suggestion as to what it is or what I can do??

Thanks in advance, dan

Well I took the donor car out and all worked perfectly.. (shell was rotten that's why I taken it out) and now it's in this one there's just no go, I have a boost gauge in there and it's showing 0 bar when you put your foot down.. That's the thing I have no service history with the engine or charger but I know it was workin in the other car..

Can your boost gauge read vacuum? If the charger wasn't spinning at all then i would expect there to be vacuum in the inlet manifold rather than atmospheric pressure like your seeing. And if the charger was worn out I would still expect to see some boost rather than nothing. Can you hear/see the supercharger spinning with the bonnet open? Have you had the car out on the road yet or are you just testing it in neutral?

When it was in the other car it was reading about 1bar.. Using the same gauge in this car it's now reading zero.. At the minute checking in neutral but I had taken the car out and it's flat.. There jus no power.. Yea I hear the charger, whines like a gooden.. Jus don't understand coz there's not really alot that will stop a G boosting is there?? Apart from leaks, boost sensor and a knackered charger??

where have you plugged the guage into? be specific because some of the hoses have one-way valves fitted(open on vacuum, closed on boost).if your reading zero your at equal pressure to outside so yes your not in boost

you havent meantioned anything about changing the ECU?

From lots of experience with these, zero boost is a pipe that has popped off or linkage on the throttle body disconnected to the bypass valve.

Take the pipe off closest to the charger(boost side) and cover it with your hand, rev engine with other hand.this will verify if the charger is making boost.your hand will move if on boost!!!Do the MFA test and check the results

if it is,then look under where the throttle is.there is a linkage that closes the bypass on full boost.check it hasnt been knocked off.

if these two dont work then you have a pipe off or something much worse

Yea I've changed the ecu for the g60 one.. Ive already taken off the pipe and it does blow my hand, and same with the linkages there all fine and in full working order... As for the boost gauge I'll have to check when I get home to be exact but it's plugged in around by the isv..

I've had boost gauges fitted to the FPR. Cut the pipe going from the FPR at the end of the fuel rail. T peice it and then rejoin the two halfs and then the third junction to your boost gauge.

Strange one, no boost at all? How much fuel is it drinking?

Assuming youve checked all vac hoses id strongly suggest a smoke test.

But are you sure youre wired up correctly, doesnt take much to upset a g on digi 1
