Rich 0 Posted March 8, 2004 I need a new flywheel for my 16v, does anyone know where I can get one? Does it share the same flywheel as a Golf? Thanks!
PhatVR6 0 Posted March 8, 2004 I doubt it, as the golf will be on an 020 rod change box. what's up with yours? can't you have it skimmed? have you considered a lightened one?
Rich 0 Posted March 8, 2004 Some of the teeth on the flywheel are a bit knackered. Which means sometimes when I try to start the car it doesnt catch, and you get this high picthed squealing sound! Excuse crap description, but my knowledge of cars is low... This means I have to stick the car in gear and rock it forward a bit. This usually sorts the problem out, but is more hassle than I want! Doesnt happen every time, but is becoming more often, so want to sort probelm out before it gets worse...

funky 0 Posted March 8, 2004 that high pitch squeling is definetly the starter motor it happens when the starter spins and doesnt engage, take it off give it a good clean with some solvent do not grease or oil as clutch dust will do the same again in no time and refit hth funky
Rich 0 Posted March 9, 2004 Thanks for the advice. Will clean the starter motor. Fkywheel is definitely in need of replacing though as well I have found a cheap flywheel, but there are two types apparently for the 16v the gut told me.....all the guy could tell me is one was lighter and one was heavier....which one should I get? Does it matter? thanks! *complete car novice*
big_mac 0 Posted March 9, 2004 the lighter one will let the engine rev easier and will improve engine braking at least thats what i got told when i was looking for a lightened flywheel.
