Flywheel

Recommended Posts

I need a new flywheel for my 16v, does anyone know where I can get one? Does it share the same flywheel as a Golf?

Thanks!

I doubt it, as the golf will be on an 020 rod change box.

what's up with yours? can't you have it skimmed? have you considered a lightened one?

Some of the teeth on the flywheel are a bit knackered. Which means sometimes when I try to start the car it doesnt catch, and you get this high picthed squealing sound! Excuse crap description, but my knowledge of cars is low...

This means I have to stick the car in gear and rock it forward a bit. This usually sorts the problem out, but is more hassle than I want! Doesnt happen every time, but is becoming more often, so want to sort probelm out before it gets worse...

that high pitch squeling is definetly the starter motor

it happens when the starter spins and doesnt engage, take it off give it a good clean with some solvent do not grease or oil as clutch dust will do the same again in no time and refit

hth

funky

Thanks for the advice. Will clean the starter motor. Fkywheel is definitely in need of replacing though as well

I have found a cheap flywheel, but there are two types apparently for the 16v the gut told me.....all the guy could tell me is one was lighter and one was heavier....which one should I get? Does it matter?

thanks!

the lighter one will let the engine rev easier and will improve engine braking
