diarmaid16 1 Posted September 4, 2011 (edited) Made a 4 hour train journey to Middlesbrough on Saturday to collect my new VR6. The drive back to Dumfries was class. I love these cars! Anyway, its moonlight blue with 107k miles, Jetex exhaust and FK coilovers. I'll be giving it a clean and seeing what it needs over the next few days so I'll keep a log of what I do on here. diarmaid16 1 Posted September 4, 2011 Cheers lad. Its actually 107000 miles. No major plans. Its low enough and I think the wheels are great even though I've never seen them before! I have a spare set of back lights that I might make all red and try them. Also might Paint all badges black. I'd welcome any suggestions though! Critical_Mass 10 Posted September 4, 2011 Driven it in the rain or on a dark road yet? If not you'll find out that the wipers suck and the headlights are like candles. Though this can be solved, search for "uprated wipers" and "uprated headlight wiring loom"
diarmaid16 1 Posted September 4, 2011 Ya, I had a 16v a few years ago. Think Lupo wipers can be used? Will need to look into the headlight loom, especially with winter coming! Cheers
Critical_Mass 10 Posted September 4, 2011 Ah you'll already have an idea of the Corrado's flaws then. Yeah Lups wipers can be used, the TT wipers are better still thoguh.
diarmaid16 1 Posted September 4, 2011 I'll have a look at prices for them. The roof mouldings are shot and look to be fairly expensive to replace!
Critical_Mass 10 Posted September 4, 2011 The mk1 TT wipers and arms are more expensive then the Lupo ones. You'll need 2 drivers arms and blades.
diarmaid16 1 Posted September 4, 2011 ok, cheers. I'll have a look on ebay for them.
diarmaid16 1 Posted September 22, 2011 Well I tore onto Tubby over the last couple of evenings and got the following done: 1. Sprayed all the badges black and refitted. 2. Fitted rocker cover gasket and throttle / inlet manifold gaskets while I was at it. 3. Removed tension pulley for serpentine belt and fitted new bearing. After removing the belt I found a lot of play in the water pump pulley. If anyone knows what I need to remove to get at the water pump, I'd appreciate some advice! Also, there is some oil down the front of the engine. I've bought seals for oil filter housing and the oil cooler but I'm a bit afraid to take the front of the car off to get at them! I've been reading loads on here and it's helping a lot. Some pics:
Jim 2 Posted September 22, 2011 Do a search for the waterpump mate. I believe you need to remove the front engine mount bolt and one of the other mount bolts then you can jack the engine up a smidge to get you access to it :) Always liked those alloys on the VR.. really uncommon to. I think they were called Le Mans..?
diarmaid16 1 Posted September 22, 2011 Did a quick search before but I'll have another look. Just hope it' something i can do in my own garage.
diarmaid16 1 Posted October 2, 2011 So today I changed the water pump, fitted new serpentine belt and changed oil, plugs and air filter. Didn't have anything big enough to open oil filter cover so that's a job for another day! Water pump was easier than I thought. Filled her up with G12++ then so I'm glad I got that done. One less thing to worry about! Need to change headlight screws and clips. They're not very pleasing to the eye.
floppyman 0 Posted October 3, 2011 Did you change the oil and left the old oil filter in there ?!?!?!? Hope youre not driving it
diarmaid16 1 Posted October 3, 2011 No, it's parked up til I can change it.
