idle hunting problem

Recommended Posts

I've just got my 2.0 16V back from getting the head gasket changed, and the idle speed is hunting very quickly between 1000 and 1200 rpm. I put a new ISV on about 3 weeks ago so I guess it can't be that. The mechanic that did the HG can't seem to find the problem - he has checked all the air hoses and they all seem fine.

Any suggestions chaps? :?

Cheers

cheers randal, I'll try those suggestions first. I'm a bit concerned about the advice on skimming the head in that thread - the mechanic said it was necessary on the 16V because the head could be warped or pitted from where the HG blew. Hope they haven't skimmed too much off and mucked-up the compression ratio - the car does feel less pokey now :(

:( not cool. I'd get back onto the garage, and start screaming. How much did the work cost if you don't mind me asking? Bet it wasn't cheap... ...plus, shouldn't the garage have given you some kinda of warranty on the work?

Cost £400 - but the mechanic said he wouldn't charge me any more to put it right if it is his fault. Lets hope he can find the problem tommorrow when I take it back there.

All sorted now - I called out a diagnostic expert, and he said it was the AIR FLOW METER that was faulty. Just so happens it failed at the same time as getting the HG done! I got a second hand one and now it's running sweet as a nut :D

Car will be up for sale in the next couple of weeks, as soon as I get my TT 225.

thanks for all your help chaps.

Cheers
