VW_OwneR_85 2 Posted January 30, 2012 hi guys, how is insurance for modifications worked out exactly? the same as it is for standard? is there a guide or % that they follow, i.e if your paying £500 a year and you want after market alloy wheels or a adjustable suspension, it will go up by 20% per mod?, i want to declare my mods but im worried that they might take advantage and rip my arms off for something thats realy going to make no difference to them, but in a leagle sense its the difference between haveing valid or invalid insurance.... Wendy 0 Posted January 30, 2012 Most of the insurance companies that are used reguarly on here, do not charge for Mods that have an increase of performance by 10% on the car. Alloys are usually ok. I use Brentacre - everything declared. Give them a call - very helpful and knowledgable of the Corrado too
VW_OwneR_85 2 Posted January 30, 2012 ok that sounds alot better, im from the channel islands so idd prefer to use the local company over here, think idd just get a re quote with the mods and see what they say, but yea none of my mods are performance mods, and im 26 with no claims so i think i should be ok then..thanks.. Wendy 0 Posted January 31, 2012 I also have more mods than on my signature. Mainly H & R adjustable springs, Koni Shocks. Good Luck
tony_ack 0 Posted January 31, 2012 Price inflation isn't the problem - the problem is that many insurers who would normally quote for a standard VR6 will not insure cars with more than a couple of mods, so you are reducing the number of insurers who want your business. As suggested, a specialist is the best bet for you, but it depends on your annual mileage. Classic insurance is by far the cheapest, but then most limit the miles on cars under 20 years old. Brentacre gave me the best quote on a modified VR6 (one in sig), not garaged, for 12000 miles per year, which was £890. Admiral were £950 for 5000 miles per year on the same car, but would have insured me on a standard car for £750. Went with Footman James in the end on a classic policy, 3000 miles a year and garaged, for £380.
