2.8 & 2.9 VR6 Visual Difference

How can you tell the difference between the Corrado's 2.9 engine and the Golf's 2.8

just by looking in the engine bay ?

look at the engine number. if it's AAA it's a 2.8. if it's ABV it's a 2.9. or at least, it SHOULD be.

on early ones, it's on the pulley end, right at the top of the block. on later oens, it's round the back, on the horizontal surface of the top of the block, directly under the cam chain tensioner (big bolt)
