Have A Leak + Window Issues.. Help

Recommended Posts

Hello guys

i need a little bit of help, i came out to my car this morning to find that my drivers side footwell was soaked through. i automatically assumed it would be a heater matrix issue or something along those lines. however i have check and my coolant level seems to be excactly the same

Ive had a little look around and the door seals look all in tact and i cant see any major issues its not like we had a massive downpoor either as usually my sunroof would leak (a problem i need to fix soon). the only thing i could find was the gromit sealing the hole for the bonnet release cable was a little out, i have pushed it back in now and not had time to dry the interior and test but im not certain that the gromet was the issue.

Is there anywhere you guys would reccomend me checking, that can cause footwell flooding drivers side??

Another small issue i had that doesnt bother me to much but i couldnt see the point in making an extra thread for it, is that my windows cant be opened and closed at the same time?? and when i use my lock the total closure only closes the window a tiny bit not the full way, i presume this is timing issue and can only be sorted through the ecu?? i have vagcom but no idea if/how i could use it to sort this problem.

any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

cheers lads :)

Open the bonnet and check theres not a pool of water held in the scuttle. The drain holes can get blocked, can only assume the water has come through the throttle cable grommet or something.

The windows can only be used one at a time, unlike more modern cars. When you say using the lock do you mean the key in the lock or the fob for the alarm?

had this on my mk3 golf vr6, it turned out to be the sunroof drain being blocked, open the sunroof and from outside look into it, your see the tray that collects water and in each corner of the sunroof there is a drain hole with a pipe attached , the rear pipe exit behind the rear bumper and i think the front exit behind the front wings, either way just check there not blocked by carefuly pouring water down them , obviously if the water flows out nice , it isnt blocked, if it backs up and doesnt flow out , you gota problem!!

Scuttle tray was clear as a whistle im hoping it was just that grommet.

And sorry i meant when i use my fob its an avital alarm if that helps

Is it an aftermarket alarm?

It could be the sunroof, just seems odd to me that water isnt showing itself anywhere else - just the drivers footwell.

Im not sure if its aftermarket it was in when i brought the car howevee i belive it may be.

The only reason i dint think its sunroof is because the sunroof does leak under heavy rain due to a slight blockage in the drian, but there was no sign of dampness in the roof lineing when i checked

No an aftermarket alarm will have a black box hidden somewhere, probably behind the dash somewhere, may be wise to get a alarm fitter to take a look to fix the issue - this is assuming it is indeed an aftermarket alarm, does the fob have a name on it?

My VR came with a factory (well fitted by vw after the car left the factory but not quite aftermarket), alarm called Quantum - which is also the name of the dealer oil, no idea if they're related. Im not sure if this worked through the ecu or its own ecu as i didnt see the alarm fitter remove it when putting the new alarm in.

lol so you already new you had a blocked drain,

the waters more then likely trickleing down the inside of the pillar plastics,

Haha yeah but that leaks only in heavy heavy downpoors and just dampens the headlining a little bit.

And the fob says avital i don't know if its aftermarket as ive never read into what corrads came with standard??
