akacheesy 0 Posted July 18, 2012 I've just got a pair of front fog lamps from someone breaking a later VR6. My problem is that the plastic housing has been broken and is missing in places. Does anyone know if you can remove the lights from the housing? Before I start trying and breaking them lol many thanks
Jim Bowen 1 Posted July 18, 2012 They are just bonded to the plastic with some sealant, i took some apart but the lenses were smashed. Probably worth heating them up if you don't mind sacrificing the plastic parts
akacheesy 0 Posted July 18, 2012 OK, cheers. Just don't wanna break them getting them out. Maybe a hair-dryer then some gentle persuasion
StueyB 0 Posted July 18, 2012 I've attempted this and it's pretty tough going, the sealant is very durable. Heat gun [hair dryer won't kick it] + skinny soldering iron are good tools for this job and some sharp implements. Oh and patience. I liken this job to removing rear windows or windscreens just on a much smaller scale.
akacheesy 0 Posted July 19, 2012 I am thinking that I can just break away the redundant plastic bits, they're broken anyway, and that might make the job a little easier. I think I have a heat gun somewhere. Are the fog light units difficult to remove from the car? I'm assuming so as these have obviously been butchered on removal. Jim Bowen 1 Posted July 19, 2012 Nah, shouldn't be hard to remove, just a few screws, unless the screws went rusty/seized
