Fuel consumption

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

My C seems to be using SO much fuel its unreal. Im hittin between 13-17 miles per gallon and im really not bootin it at all.

Ive been told its running rich, is this expensive to fix? The fumes from the car are also overwhelming (biggrim and JoeM will testify to this), would running rich cause this?

What other problems could cause this?

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Did you replace the coolant temp sensors Jim pointed out? If there gubbed then the management could be thinking the engines cold all the time hence the overfuelling.

68mm pulley, SNS 5.5 chip, 3.5 bar fuel pressure regulator modified airbox

How old is your chip? Some of the early ones (early 2003) run really rich. A lot of time has been spent refining these maps. If you are running in traffic the G60 can use massive amounts of fuel.

You may have a bad Lambda probe or duff throttle switch causing problems too. Was the blue sender you fitted brand new?

Just got the chip in November. Got it from Darren (g-man) so it wont be the chip thats at fault.

Got the blue sender from VW dealers brand new mate.

Cheers for the responses

How do you check the other possible problems you mentioned H100VW?

Lamdba probe output can be checked with an Air Fuel ratio meter. Which I would recommend you have anyway. Darren usually has some.

Have a look here at the DIY section, good info from the men who are SNS.. http://www.snstuning.com

Always check with http://www.vwvortex.com for G60 info. The Spams have loads more than us and therefore more experience.
