Red=Fast 0 Posted April 24, 2004 as far as i know the chain doesnt need to be changed unless you are replacing the cams. but if you are keeping the cams that were with the chain originally, i would not change the chain. it might mess something up if you were to replace the chain and not the cams. as i see it, everything should be replaced at the same time to not have uneven wear. Henny 0 Posted April 24, 2004 Both of the 16V engines fitted to Corrados have BOTH a chain and a belt. Belt change is the same to do as a normal 8V engine... 8) The chain drives the inlet cam off the exhaust cam and is on the gearbox end of the cams... If ever you have to do a head rebuild/gasket, then that's probably the best time to replace it... AFAIK VW don't have a set replacement period for the chain.
