Small belt in the supercharger?

Hi all. It's probably bin covered before but what does the small belt in the supercharger do? Just removing the charger to do a water pump and noticed its snapped! Could this be why it feels slow? Thanks Wayne

I would get your charger checked.

 

The belt times the eccentric rotation of the internals. Usually when it breaks there is damage to the scrolls in the charger.

LOL, it's a timing belt that moves the scroll - It can't have been working and must have been slower than a 1.6 carb engine!

 

Don't just put a belt on as there is likely to be internal damage to the charger.

Yay, charger is fooked. That must of bin the horrible noise I heard 30 secs before parking it up last nite. I thought the water pump had collapsed as I had bin leaking :(
