passenger door and window wont open

Recommended Posts

Hi. ive just joined this forum and im in need of some help.. Basically i bought a 1995 corrado vr6 as a project. The car was a non runner and has been stood for 4 years. one of the annoying faults that i cant seem to sort out is everything electrically works on the car and the central locking all works fine apart from the passenger door. It is locked shut and the window wont open. I can hear a clicking sound coming from behind that sounds like a relay. Also i cant force the locking pin up at all. if i could at-least get the window down i could get the door open.

Ive seen similar faults on here regarding the locked door but in the faults on here they have been able to open the window therefor get to the door opening mechanism.

any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

It is possible to remove the door card with the door closed, but it's quite hard without damaging it! Basically your lock mechanism is jammed, probably from lack of lubricating, oiling etc. in my opinion. Have you tried pulling the door pin up whilst trying to pull the interior door handle? The clicking you can hear is the central locking module, it's located behind the drivers side rear door card. The window regulator is also probably jammed from lack of use, or a broken cable maybe? Also does the key turn the passenger side lock?

hi, Thanks for the reply. The key turns in the lock but it doesnt lift the door pin. yes it tried pulling them both at once with no luck. Ill have ago at removing the door card tomorrow morning and see how i get on. If i can get the door card off i should be able to sort out both problems i just didnt realise it was possible with the door shut.

Cheers for the help.

Nice, hat's off if you can remove door-card without opening the door (and not breaking it in process). Seriously some ace skills. Today I was removing my door card and I can't see any way of getting past three marked screws on sides (when door is closed off course).

I find it hard to believe the door card can come off without opening the door! :)

There's 2 screws holding it on at each end, and you can't access them unless the door's open

It can be done, and ive done it twice. Both times succesfully. If you unscrew all the fixings that you can get too like the screws behind the pull handle, behind speaker grill, door pin, door handle surround etc ,then you pull the door card upwards quite hard, but only enough to get it off the lower plastic hook type things that it sits on at the bottom of the door. Then the fiddly bit, the door card should be fairly loose now and if you can imagine having something like a metal ruler with a bent end to it at 90 degrees, you need to use something like this to shimmy it down behind the doorcard to where the side fixings are,the goal is to get it partly behind the plastic fixing that the screw is attatched to and try to pop the fixing out, as It will pop out with abit of gentle force. The one on the side closest to the dashboard needs patience as its very hard to get at!

Both times ive done it an its probably taken me no more than 10 minutes, and not damaged the doorcard either. The plastic fixings can also be reused if you are careful and will just pust back into place. Also its much easier if you remove the seat first!

Hope this makes sence, I only wrote it down quickly as im in a rush, lol. :)

i think ill try getting the door card off from the inside as a last resort.. Today with alot of wd40 the interior pin started moving with locking/unlocking. Its still only moving half way and the door is still locked but it seems to be freeing off slightly. I tried to get it fired up for the first time today in 4 years but my fuel pump is seized so it wont be doing much untill my new one arrives. I ive got a feeling my coil pack will be knackered also as its got a pretty large crack in it.......

The joys of a barn find... or maybe its just the joys of corrado ownership...

It will be worth it in the long run..

Where are you spraying the WD40? Have you tried giving the door a shove whilst pulling the handle out with the door pin up as far as it can go?

Also if you last resort is removing the door card then let me know closer to the time and I will guide you through it, it's quite hard to explain over a message, so I can explain it better with abit more time.

Worst case, buy another door card off eBay and cut the old one out?
