16v head on an 8v block?

Recommended Posts

i have got an 1800 16v corrado (h reg) recently melted 3 pistons due to predetination...

i want my car back on the road but can't afford to rebiud the engine, i have been quoted nearly 600 quid for a rebore new oversized pistons rings and shells seems very steep to me!!!

there seems to be alot of 8v gti engines around an i was wondering if i could put my head and stuff onto the 8v block?

any ideas chaps? whats my best option? any help would be much appreciated!!!

Hmmn.

Why not just buy a guaranteed reconditioned 1800cc 16v engine from a good VW breakers?

These can be had these days for £250-£350 including everything,

You could use a Golf 16V bottom end but not an 8V.

You should have no bother getting hold of a full engine tho. Much easier in the long run to drop a whole lump in. The cost of gaskets etc can soon jack the cost up.

I have bought full engines, with injection, ECU and gearbox for well under 200 quid. Ones that run good.
