RadoAds 0 Posted May 29, 2004 If any one with a valver out there could take a quick look or point me in the right direction, ive noticed that the vac pipe that comes from the air box has a green T piece in it about 9 inches from the airbox which one end is connected to nothing, then about 3 or 4 inches up again it splits into 2 with a small rubber vac pipe coming off the end was split from this pipe and has come off whatever it was attached to, ive looked but to no avail, im presuming it doesnt loop back to the T because there would be no point to it, so am presuming it goes elsewhere, probably something to do with the fact that my MFA is reading 99.9mpg, much appreciated if anyone has a quick fix for me. Henny 0 Posted May 29, 2004 It's been a while since I looked at the vac system on a 16V, but I'm pretty certain that there's a nipple on the throttle body that the loose pipe should connect onto... IIRC there's also a nipple on the airbox which opens/closes the warm air flap which connects onto that green T piece too... I could be totally wrong with this though... It's been a while.. :? RadoAds 0 Posted May 29, 2004 Thanks Henny, I'll have a look and see whats what, dont really know what it effects as its not running bad at all, apart from a little lumpy on tick over
RadoAds 0 Posted May 29, 2004 Cheers Henny, Jobs sorted, t piece went to a pipe on side of airbox and the rubber pipe went to the underneath of the black plastic pipe just before the throttle body, thanks mate.
Henny 0 Posted May 29, 2004 heyyyyyy! 8) not bad for a 6 year old memory! ;)  Glad you got it sorted... does your MFA work again too now?

Henny 0 Posted May 29, 2004   you'll probably find that it's started to work again, and that the idle is also less lumpy now there isn't a vacuum leak... 8)
RadoAds 0 Posted May 29, 2004 Idle's a bit better but theres still what seems to be a slight misfire every now and then, but the mfa still reads 99.9 so I'll have to check the connection behind the cluster, ive only had the car a week so still trying to sort out all the little probs that the previous owner (or abuser, dont know which would be a better description) has left for me. :x
dubbprince 0 Posted May 30, 2004 its gotta be an air leak behind the cluster mate, could be slightly cracked there. The T piece follows on to near the throttle body if i'm correct and on mine ONE of the small pipes is blanked with a screw and the other is going into the throttle body. Can you buy replacement MFA vacuum hoses?
Henny 0 Posted May 30, 2004 just use a length of normal vacuum hose from either VW (suprisingly not that expensive!) or your local car parts shop... take a bit of the original stuff in to show them exactly what it is you are after though... 8) Just cut it to the correct lengths from the single long bit you buy to save yourself some cash! ;) 8)
