Oil Pressure Sender ???? ADVICE PLEASE!

Recommended Posts

I've managed to get hold of the VDO centre console gauges for my C.

Now my predicament is knowing which bloody part I need to send the oil pressure info to the gauge. I've been told by various people that a pressure switch is all that is needed but surely that is what I already have on the car to illuminate the oil pressure light which I assume only gives on/off info? Prices of £3 - £85 have been given with the info received!

Help would be appreciated.

Also if anyone knows a decent source who would enjoy fitting the kit (unfortunately Stealth can't fit it in amongst my other jobs!) then do please let me know. Around the Surrey area would be good!

Cheers

ask Henny......he managed to supply me with my oil-pressure sender.........and its a 2-pole one you need IIRC......mine i think had been liberated from an older audi........like a 1990's Audi 80 etc

also ask crazymarcel for instructions to fit.....as he drew up a fairly good "idiots guide" to fitting them for me

You can get another 10 bar oil pressure sender from VW. This is what I've done with the same gauges and requires a 'T-piece' so that you can use the existing sender and the new sender.

You need :- N0138115 qty 2 seals 19p

035 103 715 qty 1 banto bolt 14.96

035 103 717 qty 1 banto union 13.03

These items are listed on the vr6 switches illustrations but not shown nor listed for 16v

the other alternative is to use a dual pole sender, these are available from merlin motorsport

they're a fairly easy job to fit, I did the job in a morning, most of the time was spent getting the wiring spot on.

I've fitted also fitted the aux instrument pod to my VR and by far the easiest way to do this is to buy the correct 2 pole sender. This will be a switch (for the oil pressure circuit and light) and sender (0-10 bar) in one unit. The sender I got was from The German Car Co, who I understand have now gone out of business

However, worry not, you can get the dual pole sender from Merlin Motorsport. They were a bit more expensive than the GCC, but you've got no choice now!

The sender is made by VDO, with part number V360 023. This number should still be current.

I'm just trying to remember what the switched setting of the switch is - I think it's 0.5 bar, ie. it replaces the equivalent pressure sender on the top of the oil filter (one of two on there). This switch is v important, as it warns you if the oil pressure is too low!!

Fitting the dual pole sender is easy enough - remove the OE sender, screw in new one, and attach the wire from the original to the pole on the sender for the switch :)

Then all you need to do is run a wire from the second pole (for the gauge) through the engine bay into the car and onto it's terminal on the instrument pod. :D

HTH?

Merlin's number is 01249 782101. http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/

I came across this place when searching for a sender:

Stanley R Harris Ltd

24-40 Seaward Street

Glasgow G41 1HL

Phone +44 0141 429 3141

Fax +44 0141 420 1068

The VDO part no. is 306 081 030 009 and was quoted £41.15 + VAT but never got round to ordering it. Far cheaper than Merlin.
