Dodgy gears

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm running a 91 G60. I'm having problems with getting it into gear. Sometimes it gets stuck in reverse. And also it slides into reverse when wanting 1st, never a good thing!

Only really seem to have problems with reverse 1st and 2nd.

Anyone got any ideas??

for a start i loosen both 13mm bolts/nuts at the gearbox end....wiggle the gearstick and let it sit and nip up the bolts

this should get it close.....then depending on whats bad, say for instance 1st needs a good shove...get a freind to work back n forth to 1st and you watch what the cables are doing, then ajust a smidge so that 1st gets a little more movement

also look for a post from kwloon in the common corradoq

section...he listed a weight that helps alot

Yep, think I called ithe Post 'Gearshift Weight Mod. (Details/Photos)' Makes the gearchange much nicer on the 'earlier' C's that don't have it fitted.

P.S. There is also a spring in the gearshift mechanism under the gearstick gaitor. If it 'goes' gearchanging become veeeery hit and miss. I'll dig out a piccy of what I mean and post it here.

O.K., re. my previous post. Ignore the white pen pointing to the circlip (although if that's missing your'e gearstick will have more play than normal sidewards). Look about an inch forward of the end of the pen. Those two legs coated in black are a spring that helps your gearstick go back to a neutral position. If it's not the adjustment being out in the engine bay causing your problem (probably is), then this might also be worth a look.
