obd1 vr6 top end rebuild problems, tappets? timing? any help apreciated

I had the same sound with mine. was sat for 9 months gave mine a good blast out and it runs sweet now running the vr at idle doesn't push the oil up to the top end to great the blast for its mot will cure the tapping
