With my Mrs' old Beetle, I enquired with VW customer services to be told they dont keep records for anything over ten years. zygalski 10 Posted April 3, 2015 Don't know about main dealer history, but as a last resort as the current owner she can apply to the DVLA for a list of previous owners. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/v888-request-by-an-individual-for-information-about-a-vehicle I did this in 2012 & I just gave my reason as being interested in what is now quite a rare model & mentioned that I'm a member of the owners club. Have to say though, I was very impressed. Basically you get a letter of explanation followed by a list of all previous owners on one page in the format.... Keeper: Date of Acquisition: Date of Disposal: Name: Address: Then you also get photocopies of all the previous V5's! This could help piece together the history of the car in question.
