kevin_m 0 Posted April 6, 2015 hopefully going to look at a Storm, with a view to buying it of course, just wondering if there is anything that I should look out for, any areas prone to rust? things like that, any advice would be appreciated :)

Stonejag 10 Posted April 6, 2015 Not mentioned in that list (which is otherwise pretty comprehensive) is that the worst spots of all for rust are the corners of the front wheel arches where they meet the A-pillar. Holes here are becoming fairly ubiquitous and will allow water to run along the chassis rails and rot the floorpan from the inside out. The bottoms of the doors also rust due to the design of the window seals (water runs freely down the window and drains from holes in the bottom of the door - which are usually rusty!) but this isn't a big deal as it should run off the sill. Loose or peeling underseal isn't necessarily a bad sign but be sure to probe around if there are loose edges - they're not the youngest cars and almost all will have some rust somewhere. Sadly a bent chassis rail or floor pan from incorrect jacking is extremely common so make sure the sills are straight and the weld lines haven't split apart. If this has happened under no circumstance use the emergency wind-up 'widowmaker' jack as it will make things much worse! The top is supposed to clip over the welded seam but will just smash it flat if it's starting to swell. Stone
