oxfordpaul 0 Posted June 24, 2004 Hi all, just bought VR6 with the original aftermarket Gemini alarm. It works but no longer activates the central locking and also has a very annoying self-arming feature which I would like to turn off!! My local specialist said Gemini went bust and have no dat for the alarm. Has anyone any knowledge of this system and how to repair it or am I faced with buying a new one? ben16v 0 Posted June 24, 2004 welcome to the world of C! :) if your alarm has started to go wrong it`s likely it will carry on messing about cos its probably 10 years old! for peace of mind get a new one fitted, something like a toad alarm should sort you out and are not too expensive about £250- 300 i think and it will do all you need ie CL, full closure, thatcham 1 etc... have a look on the search option at the top of the page! vr6corrado 0 Posted June 24, 2004 I thought the Aquilla alarms were Meta units?
oxfordpaul 0 Posted June 27, 2004 I don't know mate...are Meta still in business then? Did they take them over? If you know anyone that will know how it works I'd be grateful. However, having read posts on here I think I might just get the Toad one fitted and be done with it!
vr6corrado 0 Posted June 27, 2004 You can get in touch with Meta here http://www.metasystem.co.uk/ or you can use the website to find your nearest Meta dealer. If you can, get a quote for the work needed to repair the alarm first though because as benji16v says you can get a decent cat 1 alarm for well under £300 and old alarms can be unreliable. Then again it could just be a loose wire or connection. As for self-arming this is a requirement for cat 1 approval but can be disabled, even if the alarm is no longer in production your nearest Meta approved dealer should be able to help you with instructions etc.
Bruno 4 Posted August 18, 2004 a very annoying self-arming feature ...Gemini ...how to repair ? Consider this as a punt. One of the problems with the Gemini unit was their horn unit, which incidentally contains much of the arming logic. If it gets too wet (like after the coolant bottle had sprayed the hell out of it, then it decides to arm whenever it fancies, and it refuses to tell the brain that the car needs closing - hence the closure system fails. My suggestion. Use your maintenance key. Turn it off, open the horn pod, and look carefully at the circuit board. clean all the tracks, and remove all of the water. If you are really lucky it will be fine afterwards. If you arent, trash the thing and go for a Clifford which will stand the heat and moisture of a VR6 engine bay.
