Under bonnet sound proofing

Hi.... Managed to bag myself the last pack of this from Christian.

 

Getting the old stuff off should be easy in terms of the top three quarters as it's crumbling..... Any advice how to get the rest off before I start. Thanks

Chuggs it's a messy job... Cover the engine with an old blanket or similar. Get as much of the old foam off. When your down to the glue to remove Get yourself a garden spray bottle with white spirit in and spray on the old glue leave for about 10 mins to soak... Get an old credit card or my waitrose card and scrap... Simples.

 

Don't scrap with anything else apart from a credit card...

I did it the same way as delfinis38, white spirit dabbed repeatedly on it seemed to do the job or petrol and lots of rags to wipe the gunge off, use meths or panel wipe to fully clean before sticking the new panels on and be careful to line them up well before pressing down, they stick like the proverbial (which is good!)

chuggs you could always try the auto glym tar remover stuff

 

I used that to remove the horrible super sticky stuff they put on the side strips to hold them on - it came off a treat with the above & I plan to use that to remove my bonnet lining

1. Remove as much as I can by hand

2. Remove thick residue with white spirit

3. Autoglym tar remover, meths or panel white to clean off the remainder ready for new stuff to go on

 

Sounds like a messy Sunday - bring it on

Wear a pair or 2 of gloves... And don't tread in the glue and walk in the house... Be careful with the new stuff it's super sticky once down it won't come off.
