problem with coil voltage drop

Recommended Posts

Earlier 2nite (well last nite now), me and a m8 took his old sony head unit out of his Polo to fit in me C. The connections were all the original stuff, so plugged straight in. Head worked. We then squezed it into the hole, and there was a sudden flicker of the incar light, and the head would no longer turn on.Thinking it may be the ignition, i tried to start the car, it turned over, but nowt happened.

We checked all sorts of things but eventually gave up and called the AA.

Nearly 2 hrs later, the AA man who can, turned up. He then tried allsorts and after about 30-40 mins tried a piece of wire directly from +ve battery to +ve on the coil. Started first time. Removed wire, not start. He got his voltometer out, and sure enuf there was a 12v feed, untill the ignition was turned on where by the voltage droped to 0. So there was obviously nowt to the dizzy cap, plugs etc.

So we now believe that there is maybe some sort of earth fault or summit, maybe or maybe not caused by our radio adventure.

Has anyone had a similar experience and have nay ideas/tips for me?

cheers guys.
